The pastor’s leadership position in the local church is similar to that of the chief executive officer of a nonprofit organization, with the additional expectations of responding to the specific spiritual needs of the congregation.

Today, the majority of churches in the United States are plateaued or are declining. Declining and plateaued churches have far-reaching implications for disaster relief programs, charitable activities, foreign medical missionaries, the dissemination of biblical teachings, and the organizational and financial stability of the local church.

It has been said that strong, competent, pastoral leadership is the key to effective church ministry and growth, and that transformational leadership is one of the most important factors in revitalizing a plateaued or declining church. Unfortunately, the majority of pastors in growing churches do not feel that their seminary education properly prepared them for the leadership challenges of the local church.

Even Dr. John Maxwell asserts that the American church is dying due to a lack of strong leadership.

Here at I&S Coaching, one of our goals is to help equip ministry leaders live a balanced, abundant life, while contextually engaging their culture in a more holistic, and missional faith experience.
